Three cheers to Gautham Vasudev Menon, the big daddy of romance is back with a bang! His Vinnaithaandi Varuvaaya (VTV) is pure magic. This one works and grabs us where it matters; VTV is straight from the heart. Special: Vinnnaithandi Varuvaaya

10 years after his candy floss Minnale, Menon’s VTV is a far more mature Valentine. The film is backed by awe inspiring performance and precisely one thing going for it and that’s the chemistry between its lead actors Silambarasan and Trisha, Manoj Paramahamsa’s eye-catching frames, great screenplay and a stunning climax that is riveting.

It is return of romance and will strike a chord with anyone who’s loved and felt the unbearable anguish of loss, and knows the feeling that binds people in love together. Menon’s creativity is completely home grown though it looks autobiographical.

Karthik (Simbu), a mechanical engineer, dreams of becoming a film director, and meets Jessy (Trisha), a Malayalee Christian girl, who is an IT professional. And it is love at first sight. She lives on the top floor with her strict father (Babu Antony), mother and an aggressive brother, while Karthik and his family have rented out the lower portion of the house.

Mani Ratnam's Vikram special

actor Vikram will make his Bollywood debut with Mani Ratnam's Raavan. Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai are the lead pair in Hindi and Vikram plays the villain; he will play the lead opposite Aishwarya in Tamil. Sources add that Mani Ratnam is in a dilemma regarding the title for the Tamil version; Ashokavanam and Raavana are under consideration.

Now the latest buzz is that the ace director is planning a special trailer to introduce the National award winning Tamil actor in Bollywood. The special trailer will be a curtain raiser showcasing Vikram’s style and substance using scenes from his earlier movies. There are reports that Amitabh Bachchan will release the trailer in March.

Raavana, said to be the modern adaptation of the epic Ramayana, revolves around Raavana, the ruler of Lanka, who kidnapped Sita. The story culminates with Sita taking the side of Raavana instead of Rama, who suspects her chastity after having spent so much time in Raavana’s custody. Music is by Oscar winner A.R. Rahman. Raavana is produced by Mani Ratnam's sister Sharda under Rathnam's banner Madras Talkies.

Anushka's Pachanakshari

Director V. Samudra's heroine-oriented Panchakshari, starring southie Anushka Shetty as heroine, is almost like Anushka's pathbreaking Arundhati, which proved that Anushka could act not only in glamorous roles but also action and emotional characters!

Though not much is known about the story of Panchakshari, the shooting is currently progressing at brisk pace in Hyderabad. The logo of the film was unveiled at Annapurna Studios recently. The next schedule will begin this week and the film is expected to release in April.

Panchakshari is produced by Bommadevara Ramachandra Rao under the banner of Sai Ratna Creations and presented by Akkineni Nagarjuna. Chandramohan, Nasser, Raviprakash, Brahmanandam, Pradeep Rawat, Ali, Raghubabu, Jeeva, Benarjee, Uttej, Nalla Venu, Sudha, Telangana Sakuntala, Sana and others are in the cast.

Music is by Chinna and lyrics are by Chandrabose, Ramajogaiah Sastry and Suddala Ashok Teja. Story is by Madhu Vyapari, dialogues are by Thota Prasad, cinematography is by Vasu and editing is by Marthand K. Venkatesh.

VTV, released on Friday, took a fantastic opening across all the release centers in Tamil Nadu. The much anticipated flick of 2010 is also receiving good reviews from fans and critics alike.

AISHWARYA HAS A SCRIPT READY FOR DHANUSH

here is a strong buzz in Kollywood that Aishwarya Dhanush is ready with a script. The lady has been contemplating on donning the director’s hat for quite some time and had assisted with bro-in-law Selvaraghavan in Aayirathil Oruvan. This gave rise to a speculation that Aishwarya would wield the megaphone soon.

There were reports that with a busy schedule ahead, Dhanush could not devote time for his wife’s venture and the lady would scout for another actor to play the lead role. But sources in Kollywood say that Aishwarya had written the script for Dhanush and hence the actor would be a part of it.

MADHAVAN: COFFEE WITH AN IDIOT

Madhavan was part of the Coffee with an Idiot, which took place in Dallas, San Jose, New Jersey and Chicago. The event inspired from ‘3 Idiots’, is an interaction between the star and the NRIs. Only a select number of people was allowed for this event. Speaking of it, Maddy said, “I was struck by the level of intellectual and mass connectivity the NRIs in the US had with '3 Idiots'. It's opened up a whole new discussion on the education system and the role of Indian cinema in bridging the gap between oriental and western perceptions on the power of the youth.”

Madhavan was a part of the blockbuster film 3 Idiots, which also had Aamir Khan in the lead.

Priyamani rubbishes romantic link with Jagapathi

National award winning Priyamani has awesome screen chemistry with prime star Jagapathi Babu! And they have co-starred in a number of films like Pellaina Kothallo, Pravarakhyudu, Sadhyam and Baburao... Ninnodala! But does it mean that both actors have any relationships beyond professional boundaries?

Unfortunately, this is what a few Telugu newspapers and websites had written recently about the duo’s relationship. Annoyed by these reports, Priyamani dismissed all speculative and unsubstantiated reports, saying that they are figments of some ugly mind’s imagination.

"I acted with Jagapathi Babu in my first Telugu film, which became a big hit. Then I have acted with him in the recently released Pravarakyudu which has also been received well. My next release Sadhyam is also with him. But I have also acted with other heroes like Tarak (NTR), Ravi Teja and Nitin. Just because I have worked with Jagapathi in many films, you cannot link me with him. I enjoy a good friendship with him and there is nothing more than that," she said.

Priyamani is now busy shooting for her second Kannada film Eno Onthara featuring Golden star Ganesh in the lead. The shooting is progressing in Chickmagalur. After the current schedule, the unit will move to Greece to shoot two songs

Ananthapurathu Veedu coming this summer?

Magnificent director Shankar has been producing quite a number of beautiful projects recently, the latest being Eeram. Now there are reports that his next production Ananthapurathu Veedu will grace theatres this summer.

Ananthapurathu Veedu belongs to the horror genre, and deals with supernatural powers; it is directed by ‘Marmadesam’ fame Naga. Shankar is known to produce movies with a difference and when Naga approached him with different scripts, Shankar was impressed with all the options and gave Naga the freedom to choose whichever he wanted.

It is believed that Shankar was very pleased with Nandha's performance in Eeram directed by Arivazhagan, and decided to cast him again for Ananthapurathu Veedu, which also has Chaya Singh in a prominent role

Images: Silambarasan turns Mr Nice Guy | Vinnnaithandi Varuvaaya is an intense love story: Gautham Menon The first half is all about how he passionately wooes her, follows her to Kerala, with his good friend Ganesh (Ganesh) a cameraman and his mentor who was instrumental in him becoming director KS Ravikumar’s AD. Karthik’s passionate wooing melts Jessy who finally succumbs to his ardent love. But her family and religion stands in the way of true love.

The romantic track is engaging because it's innocent, simple and the director nails it right. Silence convey so much more than irreverent banter, and nowhere is this more evident than in the interactions between Karthik and Jessy, whose romance is conveyed through their conversations, eyes and longing expressions. The credit goes to its lead pair who invests sincerity and genuine enthusiasm while attacking their roles.

However, VTV is not devoid of minor flaws. It has too many songs which are experimental and are non-structured that act as speed breaker. The pre climax song is unwanted, still “Hosanna..” and “Aaromale…” are the pick of the lot. The film at 2 hours and 35 minutes can be trimmed by at least 10 minutes in the second half to make it as racy and interesting as the first half.

I loved myself in VTV: Simbu Count among its major plus points- the technical wizardry of the film. Manoj Paramahamsa’s camera and his colour combination especially the night silhouette shots in the backwaters have a touch of class. Art director’s Rajeevan’s choice of interiors and mixing it with the exteriors are brilliant. Antony’s editing without using any gimmicks makes the narration silken smooth.

The film belongs to its lead actors. For sure, Simbu has come a long way from his finger wagging punch line spewing days. It's a joy to watch him in the climax scene when he speaks about his love by taking ordinary lines and delivering them so convincingly, and never miss a beat. His sheer agility in the romantic interludes, his composure, his dead pan humour and his tears in the climax are tangible and real, giving it a heart warming immediacy.

As a woman torn by the dualities of her existence, Trisha looks good and delivers her career best performance in a knock-out role. Her costumes, body language and gait changes as the story shifts from Chennai to New York via the backwaters of Kerala. There is a super cameo by Ganesh (one of the producers of VTV), which is earthy and outrageous as the cameraman friend of the hero and raises huge chuckles and the bar of the film.

The film is a must watch for those who cares for cinema of sense and substance. It stresses the fact that Tamil cinema has to break the mould if it aims to grab eyeballs. Gautham Menon has crafted a movie that will stay in our hearts for a long, long time.

Asin replaced by Shruti?

Legendary actor Kamal Haasan's daughter Shruti Haasan's Kollywood debut opposite reigning actor Suriya in a film to be directed by talented A.R. Murugadoss is one of the major happenings in the South Indian film industry these days!

While the shooting of this yet-to-be-titled flick, being simultaneously made in Hindi, Telugu and Tamil, is all set to begin this week, we hear that the makers' original choice in the female lead of the film was Asin, but they finally chose Shruti Haasan instead of Asin as reportedly Shruti Haasan has a face which is more suited for Bollywood.

To be produced by Udhayanidhi Stalin, this untitled film will have music by Harris Jayaraj. Ravi K. Chandran will be the cameraman. More details including the title, shooting schedule, cast and crew are awaited.

Siddique directs Vikram

‘Friends’ director Siddique will direct a move with ‘Chiyaan’ Vikram soon.

After his ‘Bodyguard’ starring Dileep was a blockbuster in Malayalam, director Siddique confirmed he will make the same movie in Tamil with Vijay. The scripting work for the movie is being done, with minor alterations to suit Tamil audience. Now, sources say he is ready with another script and this time it is for Vikram.

Siddique will direct Vikram in a bi-lingual movie, in Tamil and Hindi with Vikram himself as the producer. Sources claim that Vikram has been listening to many scripts lately and he liked Siddique’s story. Looks like Vikram, who’ll enter mainline Bollywood with ‘Raavan’, wants to get a strong hold there.

Santhanu’s next

Sakkarakatti’ sweet boy Santhanu Bagiyaraj is gearing up for his next project. IndiaGlitz digs out more:

Santhanu who is busy currently shooting ‘Aayiram Vilakku’ seems to have signed a movie with director K S Adhiyaman, who made movies like 'Thotta Chinungi', 'Sornamugi', 'Priyasaki', and ‘Thoondil’.

After Thoondil’s mild response in the box office, K S Adhiyaman has worked on a youthful subject this time. From our sleuths we discover the essence of the movie- the hero woos a Rajasthani Girl and marries her. He goes to Rajasthan and faces a culture shock there. How he manages and mingles with the crowd forms the crux of the story.

K S Adhiyaman has directed a lot of movies in Bollywood. He would hope to make a mark in Kollywood now. IndiaGlitz wishes him all the best.

Ajith in Asal Movie Review News Images

Febeuary 6th Saturday

Asal - Action Pot Pourri

He’s the ultimate star and he sure has lived up to the name. Ajith is the man of the moment and he totally deserves to be. After a long time, Director Saran has offered us a true action movie. Perhaps the last talked about action movie was Kamal Haasan’s starrer ‘Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu’ (VV) by Goutham Menon, though ‘Asal’ is completely different from ‘VV’.

‘Asal’, the latest and classy flick by Sivaji Productions is a feast for all you Ajith’s fans. This is the fourth movie by the Saran- Ajith- Bharadwaj trio, after Kadhal Mannan, Amarkkalam, and Attagasam. However, you won’t find a trace of those movies in this. Saran has totally reformed his creativity in ‘Asal’. Along with screen play writer Yuhi Sethu and few vital inputs from Ajith himself, Saran has made a platter of serious action story in this movie.

Yuhi Sethu’s writing skills and Saran’s movie making skills probably have taken inspiration from a few famous Hollywood flicks and this is a ‘little’ evident in the movie. The story narration can be correlated to many Hollywood gangster flicks that have come in the past.

Asal- the story is based in France, where most action has taken place. Talking about action, the car chase sequences in France designed by stunt master William Ong are sure to make you feel awe. Ajith’s doing a double role in this movie after ‘Attagasam’.

He plays the father and son. Ajith as the father, is serious, composed and has done this role with elegance. Though you won’t see him through out the movie, the senior Ajith’s character would be resonant in your mind.

Lets move to the gist of the story now. The movie’s all about Sons-Father relationship, Brother-Brother relationship and how evil forces enter to change their lives forever. Jeevanandham (Senior Ajith) is an arms manufacturer running the Eurasia Trading Company in Paris, and his consignments are mainly for defence purposes to countries and not to others. He has 3 sons. Shiva (the junior Ajith) and as his half brothers, the slowly growing actor Sampath and ‘Aahaa’ Rajeev portray their wicked roles to perfection. A baddie Shetty played by Kelly Dorjee, who’s a Don back in India has other plans. The other villain is Pradeep Rawat, who plays the role of the dreadful uncle to Jeevanandham’s sons. How the brothers are pulled into the Don’s web, how the uncle tries his evil pranks on them and how the junior Ajith saves wrap up this exciting flick.

Now, are we missing the ladies? Sameera Reddy after her brilliant performance in ‘Vaarnam Aayiram’ is playing the role of the Cultural Attache in the Indian Consulate in Paris. She’s doing a serious role as a diplomat, and it completely suits her. Dubbing for her by Chinmayi should definitely be commended. The other lady is Bhavana, who works for Prabhu back in India. Her innocent role keeps the audience in dilemma as to who ends up winning Ajith’s love.

Giving company as character artistes are producer Prabhu as a friend of the Senior Ajith, and yesteryear hero Suresh as a French Police officer makes a comeback. The other characters for you to look out for are Yuhi Sethu and his accomplices; their raunchy comedy makes the hall have a healthy laugh.

Ajith’s performance is admirable. He appears to be still under the hangover of ‘Billa’ yet he has quite gracefully differentiated his characters as the father and son. Talking about characterization, Ajith is loaded with absolute style and has carried away his costumes to flawlessness. His clothing in this movie is simply superb. Although the cigar in his mouth conveys a wrong message to the youth and his fans, it completes the chic look.

Fight masters Kanal Kannan, Thalapathi Dinesh and Patrick Bruneton have all done a brilliant job and have made Ajith appear superior. The fight sequences are amazing, and director Saran has not shown much of blood shed.

Saran’s hard work is obvious in the movie. But the length and the narration of the story could have been further sliced. In every other scene, dialogue writer Yuhi Sethu, has made fans of Ajith go ga-ga as Ajith’s label Thala has been reiterated plenty of times. The movie has fared well in most departments, but the music has been a cropper. Music director Bharadwaj could have done better work as his combination with Ajith and Saran in the past has been remarkably successful. But solace is offered from Prashanth D Misale, the cinematographer, who has shown us Paris so beautifully in the movie.

According to Asal’s tag line “The Power of Silence”, Ajith has limited dialogues but loaded with action and of course guns. The end product is a true offering for the die-hard Ajith fan. If you are not a die-hard fan of Ajith, after watching ‘Asal’, you’ll unquestionably become one.

Asal is Ajith's 49th film. Its of course a much awaited movie by the Ajith fans. This movie has brought back the old team Ajith and Saran. Also Ajith is the Assistant director of the film. He is also credited for the story, screenplay and dialogues along with Saran and Yuhi Sethu. So he has an extra responsibility for the good going of the film.

Asal is a story of riot between three brothers over a property. Two of the brothers (Sampath Kumar and Rajeev Krishna) are constantly fighting for the wealth and the property while the other brother keeps aside and tries to stop the family getting split. The feud existed there in the family right from the father's time and is still continuing even after the death of the father. Both the good son and father's role is played by Ajith. The wealth seems too much for the brothers to handle and they land in trouble. So Ajith comes for their rescue. The rest deals with the climax. For more see the movie Asal.

Sameera Reddy is playing the heroine, has no much scope of performance in the film but has enacted her role very well. Bhavana looks pretty in the movie. Ajith, as usual is looking glamorous and handsome in the film. Even Sampath, Rajeev and Pradeep has done their roles of villains very well. As far as the story is concerned there is nothing much extra ordinary in it and sometimes it pricks that the cast , especially Ajith is given a priority than the script. Yuhi Sethu tries hard to provide a few comic moments, succeeding partially on the rare occasion; his side kicks trying hard with a few gimmicks as well. Prabhu shows a dignified presence. The only thing to say that its the presence of Ajith in his stylish costumes and accessories that stop one from getting bored.

Technically speaking the shots in France is quite appreciable. The camera has done a wonderful job. The streets and other beautiful sceneries of France is beautifully impressed. Action scenes are not that pleasing and could have been made better. The music by Bharadwaj gives hardly any feelings.

All in all the movie Asal, produced by Sivaji Productions can be categorized as a stylish movie by Ajith. Altogether Ajith has impressed his fans but director Saran disappointed again. The movie is visually pleasing and one can enjoy his time seeing the movie. Don't think too much. Just watch the movie.

Rating: 3/5
Films based on feuds between brothers have been a hackneyed concept when it comes to Tamil cinema. In literal sense, there have been hundreds of films churned out on the same conceptualization. Of course, ASAL isn’t an elision as it revolves around the conflict between brothers in a powerful family that is narrated with ample commercial ingredients meant for Ajith fans.

Expectations were more with ASAL, since the film establishes new avatar of Ajith Kumar as a co-director and screenwriter. But, has he handled these criterions with perfection?

Of course, he has done justice over these arenas by gratifying to the tastes of his fans. But then, the screenplay turns out to be tedious on more parts with uninteresting moments. Saran has been wearing the same old-hat of penning stories based on betrayals and retaliations. His previous films with Ajith Kumar– ‘Amarkalam’ and ‘Attagasam’ are the best illustrations for it. On the dot, ASAL is a well-tailored piece of work catering the ardent buffs of Ajith Kumar while for regular moviegoers it proves to be a passable show.

Set in backdrops of Paris, the film centers on Jeevanandham (Ajith Kumar), a top-charting arms dealer and his sons Sam (Sampath), Vicky (Rajeev Krishna) while Shiva (again played by Ajith Kumar) happens to be the son of his second wife. When Sam and Vicky are impelled by his uncle (Ghajini fame Pradeep Rawat) to sign a business deal with a group that plies weapons for terrorists, Jeevanandham abides Shiva’s words about pooh-poohing the offer.

Nonetheless, as Jeevanandham passes away because of cardiac arrest, Vicky and Sam strike deal with the same group that their father never wanted. Here enters a deadly mafia Shetty (Kelly Dorjee), who abducts Vicky to Mumbai for causing havoc in contract he was supposed to sign with the same group.

Shiva and his close associate Sarah (Sameera Reddy), a member of French embassy flies down to Mumbai to rescue Vicky from Shetty with the help of his dad’s friend Mirasi (Prabhu). Shiva comes across Sulochana (Bhavana), an orphan raised by Mirasi who falls in love with him at first sight.

When Shiva becomes the savior for Vicky and Sam, he pleads his stepbrother to remain with him forever since it was their father’s last wish. But for a greater shock, Shiva is shot by them thereby drowning in the seas.

What had actually urged them to commit such a dishonoring act is revealed during second hour with an unexpected truth revealed about Shiva.

Situations become speculative for these brothers and evil uncle when they find out that Shiva is still alive. Ajith Kumar stuns us with his elegantly stylish looks and performance. But it would be better if he can focus on ‘romance’ factors as well. Right over his past 5-6 films, the actor hasn’t been trying his luck with comedy and romance quotients. His performance as both father and son is overpowering and keeps us engrossed throughout the show. Sameera Reddy as an official from French Embassy doesn’t get scope while Bhavana looks cute as a lovable fille. Rajeev Krishna and Sampath have done justice to their roles. In particular, Sampath excels with his body language and mannerisms. It looks like he has spent quality time on preparations. Suresh Balaji as a Tamil speaking cop in France is perfect while Pradeep Rawat sleepwalks through his characterization. Prabhu doesn’t get much prominence while Yughi Sethu provides relief with his comedy tracks. Kelly Dorjee steals the show with his mind-boggling show. To be precise, his complete portion in the first half happens to be highlighting attribute.

Bharadwaj has to seriously work on tuning better melodies. Except the title song and ‘Em Thandhai’, none of songs impresses us. Debutant Prashanth carries the entire film on his shoulders with his stunning cinematography and he’s sure to make it big in tinsel town. Antony’s editing is slick and decorous and art work by Prabhakar requires special mention.

Vivek Karunakaran, one of the leading designers of India has embellished Ajith with fantastic costumes while Bhavana and Sameera Reddy must thank their costume designer Nalini Sriram for having projected them so lavishly graceful with cool costumes. On the flip side, the screenplay turns to be wearisome during some moments, but kudos to Saran for presenting the film with a shorter duration of 120mins.

As mentioned earlier, ASAL is sure to be a promising movie for Ajith fans while others it’s an above average flick with technical excellence on all arenas.

Hot News In Ajith Movie Asal Tomorrow

Febeuary 4th Thursday

Ajith’s choice from ‘Asal’ album

The audio launch function of ‘Asal’ happened today evening which was followed by a press meet. As the movie is produced by Sivaji Films, the producers decided to release the music album at the place where their father Sivaji Ganesan lived.

While addressing the press, Ajith said that he was happy about the outcome of the songs by Bharadwaj. When asked what his favorite song in the album is, “My favourite song is ‘Engey Engey’ which is sung by SPB. The lyrics of Vairamuthu for this song have a lot of resemblance to my life. I remember the times when some good souls encouraged me with a pat on my shoulders when I faced failures. I remember those moments when I hear this song” shared the actor while he spoke during the press meet.

Looks like our Thala will be receiving a special credit from the makers to have associated with the movie excluding acting in the lead role. We have to wait and see the unique credit being offered for the actor.

The music scored by Bharadwaj has seven songs in total. It’s worthy to mention that Ajith- Bharadwaj- Saran combo had given hit earlier and the same magic is expected to work this time too.

Get back to read more hot news on ‘Asal’ and Ajith…

Anbumani requests Ajit to delete smoking sequences in ‘Asal’

Anbumani Ramadoss, the former Union Health & Family Welfare minister and son of PMK founder Ramadoss, has appealed to actor Ajit Kumar to ensure that sequences showing him puffing on a pipe and smoking are deleted in the upcoming film ‘Asal’, slated to release this Friday (5th February).
During his tenure, Anbumani enacted a law banning smoking in public places, though the law couldn’t be implemented in its true spirit on all the places in the country. Now out of power, Anbumani still fights smoking through his Pasumai Thayagam, an eco-friendly organization. Anbumani is very particular that heroes should avoid smoking in films lest the habit might catch up with their fans.

Bollywood superstars Shah Rukh Khan and Aamir Khan haven’t heeded the ex-Minister’s request and continue to smoke in films and in real life. Anbumani has now targeted Ajit who is show to be puffing on his pipe and smoking in the banners and posters of the film which releases this Friday.

Anbumani’s supporters assembled in front of the Sangam cinemas in the city, where the film is releasing, and raised slogans seeking the ‘deletion of smoking sequences in the film’ or ‘banning the film’ altogether. Other actors smoking in films and in public were also not spared by them. Anbumani has reportedly written to Ajit to intervene personally and delete sequences showing him to be puffing and smoking.

Simbu's dance in 'Asal'

confirmed but this news seems to be doing the rounds.
It's said Simbu is doing a guest role in Ajith's 'Asal.' This has been refuted by 'Asal' unit but there's a small element of truth in it. It seems Simbu is doing only one dance number and he is himself going to sing that song. Simbu is a big fan of Ajith. In every film of his, he utters some praise or other of Ajith. It seems Simbu has wanted for long to act in at least one scene of an Ajith film. He even told this to Ajith himself, and this song sequence in 'Asal' is the result. After completing the shooting in Malaysia, they will put up grand sets in Chennai to shoot Simbu's dance. Surely Simbu will soon get flooded with offers to do a dance item in many films!
