Thoonganagaram starts rolling!

Dhayanidhi Alagiri and his Cloud Nine, after the terrific opening of Tamil Padam, has started their new film Thoonganagaram from today (Saturday, January 30) in Madurai.

The movie was launched in style at Thamukkam Grounds in Madurai on the occasion of the producer’s father and Union Minister MK Alagiri's birthday.

His mother Dhayalu Ammal lit the kuthuvilakku, Alagiri's wife Gandhi Alagiri gave the clap and the minister switched on the camera. His daughters Kayalvizhi and Selvi were also present on the occasion.

The film from its promotional ads in newspapers looks like a Madurai based gangster film about the youth. In local parlance Madurai is known as Thoonganagaram, the city that does not sleep.

The film is written and directed by Gaurav, a former associate of KS Ravikumar, and features ‘Pasanga’ Vimal, ‘Nadodigal’ fame Bharani and ‘Renigunta’ Nishanth in key roles. ‘Thamizh MA’ Anjali plays the heroine.

Besides wielding the megaphone, Gaurav dons an important role in the film which has music by Sundar C Babu.

Thambikku Intha Ooru audio launched

he audio launch of Bharath-Sana Khan starrer Thambikku Intha Ooru (TIO) directed by Badri, took place at a popular multiplex on Friday morning.

Dharan has scored some peppy music for the film.The audio was released by Sun Pictures COO Hansraj Saxena and received by a host of celebrities.

MP and actor JK Riteesh, Ramanarayanan, Khusboo, Samuthirakani, Perarasu, Sakthi Chidambaram, Jananathan and Balaji Sakthivel were among the guests.

TIO is produced by VK Media, and is about a guy who goes in search of his lover. Bharath joins the bandwagon of heroes who turn playback singers with this film. Prabhu, Vivek and Ranjith are in the supporting roles

Rahman to compose for Tamil Conference

The maestro AR Rahman, will compose the theme song for the World Classic Tamil Conference (WCTC) to be held in Coimbatore in June.

Rahman met Chief Minister M Karunanidhi who had penned the lyrics for the song and discussed the tune for the song. In chaste Tamil Karunanidhi has been able to capture the essence and growth of Tamil literature over two millennia, which has survived the vicissitudes of time.

On hearing that Rahman was leaving for Los Angeles to take part in the Grammy Awards, Karunanidhi wished him all the best and said: “I am hopeful that you would bring home Grammy award too.”

Deputy Chief Minister M K Stalin, Karunanidhi’s wife Rajathi Ammal, daughter and Rajya Sabha member Kanimozhi and Sun Television Network chairman Kalanithi Maran were present during the meeting

Shiva scores with Tamil Padam!

One time popular Radio Mirchi RJ Shiva had turned actor with hits like Chennai-28 and Saroja. Now he has hit big time with his latest release Tamil Padam. The full length spoof on Kollywood has taken a fantastic opening on day-one of its release.

On Friday, Shiva went around Chennai theatres gauging the mood of the public. He was mobbed at a couple of places with fans queuing up to congratulate him.

Shiva has been transformed into a star overnight, as his performance in the film has been appreciated.

The scene where he tries to dance like Kamal Hassan in Salangai Oli is getting the maximum claps. The buzz is that the actor has been flooded with offers, and is now seriously looking at becoming another star in the making.

Ajith is the co-director of Aasal!

Sivaji Productions Saran directed action adventure Aasal featuring Ajith, Sameera Reddy and Bhavana has been given a ‘UA’ certificate by the censors.

The makers of the film were trying for a ‘U’ certificate to get the family audiences, but ended up getting a ‘UA’ which is good enough as it is an action film.

The censors offered Saran, a ‘U’ if he trims the violent action scenes, but he preferred to retain the ‘UA’ as he did not want to dilute the full impact of the action film. In Chennai city the film is releasing in 11 screens.

Meanwhile today’s (Jan 29) papers have come out with ads of Aasal release date as February 5. For the first time ever a superstar has been officially recognized as the “man behind the film”.

Remember in Tamil superstar films the contribution of the lead actors whether it is Rajinikanth, Kamal or Vijay is never acknowledged though they contribute largely with their creative inputs to the making of the film.

We salute Ajith, and producers for boldly advertising the stars involvement and contribution to the film. The ads of Aasal clearly say Ajith Kumar is the co-director and is also credited with “story, screenplay and dialogues” along with Saran and Yuhisethu.

Ilayaraja acquires Tamil remake rights of Paa

Critically-acclaimed Bollywood film Paa which created a wave in the minds of audiences, is all set to be remade in Tamil. Guess who has bagged the remake rights? It's none other than Paa's music director Ilayaraja.

Paa became a hot proposition overnight soon after its very first promo was unveiled. The film is based on a kid affected by Progeria and dwells on father-son relationship.

Big B became bigger after the release of Paa. His excellent portrayal as 13-year-old Progeria patient put Amitabh Bachchan on a pedestal that may be very difficult for other actors to reach.

It would be interesting to see who will play the role of Amitabh Bachchan in Tamil. There are also reports that the music maestro discussed the production of the film with Kamal Haasan.

So let's wait and watch who is the Paa of Kollywood?

Dhanush to remake Kannada film Duniya

Dhanush has reportedly acquired the rights of Kannada blockbuster Duniya. The actor is playing it safe by choosing remakes of successful films. It all started with Yaaradi Nee Mohini; Kutty followed; Ready, Mapillai and Seedan will continue the trend.

Duniya (Kannada), directed by debutant director Soori, was produced by A.T. Lokesh and T.P. Siddaraju starring debutants Vijay and Rashmi with Rangayana Raghu, Kishore and Chandru in very important roles. The film was based on Bangalore's under

Kamal Haasan-Ravikumar team up again

After their super hit combo in Avvai Shanmugi (1996), Thenali (2000), Panchathantiram (2002) and Dasavathaaram (2008), legendary South Indian actor Kamal Haasan and hit maker K.S. Ravikumar are coming together again with a Tamil film titled Yavarum Kaelir.

Speaking to a private channel to promote his latest offering Jaggubhai, starring Sarathkumar and Shriya Saran as father and daughter, K.S. Ravikumar said Yavarum Kaelir will start shooting from April mostly in the US.

Ravikumar has already finished the screenplay; Trisha will be the heroine. This is the first time she will appear opposite Kamal Haasan. Udayanidhi Stalin is the producer and he will also be seen in an important role in Yavarum Kaelir, a Deepavali offering.
