Amazing News In Tamil Cinema
BADMAASH COMPANY MOVIE REVIEW
Starring: Shahid Kapoor, Anushka Sharma, Meiyang Chang, Vir Das, Anupam Kher.
Direction: Parmeet Sethi
Music: Pritam Chakraborty
Production: Yash Raj Films
Yash Raj, after a series of flops, a Rab Ne., a New York and the supremely lovable - yet a box office disaster ‘Rocket Singh’, has once again invested quite heavily on actor Parmeet Sethi’s first directorial - Badmaash company. Coming-of-age movies are quite the trend in Hindi cinema, and who best to portray the brilliant young kid with a vision than the person who has specialized in such movies - Shahid Kapoor.
The movie is about Karan (Shahid) and his friends, who ride on an idea to do the wrong, and start enjoying its dividends only later to realize - that dishonesty pays but doesn't guarantee eternal happiness and joyous life. When Karan finally understands it, he is all alone in the jail. Can Karan bounce back and get his life back on track? Well what’s the fun in reading the visual content?
Badmaash Company is a mixed bag, it starts off promisingly only to fall in the cliché trap with

predictable proceedings but leads to a decent finale. The pace does shift regularly but somehow at the end of it all you do come out satisfied. Parmeet Sethi does impress with his directorial debut and shows immense promise, no wonder Yash Raj has signed him for two more movies. In the scene when Karan moves out of his house or the intimate scenes of the lead pair - the director had shown immense maturity and understanding of the medium. At the same time, the movie does suffer from being too predictable. And the climax sequences looks unrealistic.
Shahid Kapoor is not at his sizzling best but still is likable, the best thing about him is his confidence level and he is never short of that. Anushka sheds her inhibitions to flaunt her assets and sizzles on screen with her well-toned body and her scintillating performance. There are a few sequences when she does overact but can be pardoned as she makes up for it. Vir Das, the stand-up comedian is brilliant as Chandu. He sure is going places. Meiyang Chang is decent as Zing. Anupam Kher is dependable as always and so is Kiran Juneja.
Cinematography by Sanjay Packium is good, so is the editor Ritesh Soni but the movie does not boast of a good musical score and though one or two songs are good, it somehow doesn't suit the movie. Overall - the movie has a good technical crew who could have done a better job.
Badmaash Company could have achieved greatness but does have to be content with a good film tag. A tag that can carry the film forward at least until the ‘Kites’ fly in.
IRUMBU KOTTAI MURATTU SINGAM MOVIE REVIEW
Starring: Lawrence, Lakshmi Rai, Padmapriya, Sandhya, Ramesh Kanna.
Direction: Simbu Devan
Music: G V Prakash
Production: AGS Entertainment
Welcome to the world of Wild Western- cowboys, horses, revolvers, cards and county music! Irumbu Kottai Murattu Singam (IKMS), the third offering from Simbu Devan, delves in all these which have not been handled for quite a while in Tamil cinema. Of course, Simbu proclaims his work to be completely a make-believe one and any shortfall (in this department) can be justified.
The film begins with a small intro of cowboy culture and an imaginary extrapolation of this into our civilization. The entire premise of the film is set in a cowboy milieu.
Raghava Lawrence has been sentenced to murder in Sholaypur (where Amitabh Bachchan adorns the place of Mahatma Gandhi in the court) because of a loss of a precious diamond in his workplace and in the nick of the moment he has

been kidnapped by Ilavarasu, Mouli and company who promise that he can protect their clan (Jaishankarpuram) from the clutches of the cruel one-eyed Nasser due to his striking resemblance to their leader Murattu Singam who went missing some time back. In return, they will give him the precious diamond - Mullangi Vairam (very similar to the one that was stolen) and he can get his job back.
In further course, Lawrence lands in Jaishankarpuram where he finds his love-interest Padmapriya. He also encounters Nasser of Irumbu Kottai and USApuram who is flanked by his deputies Lakshmi Rai and Saikumar (Ulakkai). Lawrence also stumbles upon the Red Indian Chief M S Bhaskar and his daughter Sandhya. One thing leads to another and a group goes on a treasure hunt to find the precious diamond and wealth with a map. The rest of IKMS is all about this hunt and whether Jaishankarpuram gets freed from USApuram and Nasser and what happens to Lawrence.
The film scores high on the art department and hats off to art director Muthuraj who deserves a standing ovation for creating the right kind of feel. He takes us into a different world. Costumer Sai’s hard work is perceivable in every costume of the long line of star cast. Each one’s costume is distinct from other. Music by GV Prakash renders the apt feel and his background score gels well.
and his practice sessions with the gun, card and horse are evident. Heroines do not have much of a role in IKMS except for a song each. The true performers are M S Bhaskar, his interpreter (Sams) and Nasser. If the special Red Indian language is hilarious, Sams's antics give us stomach spasms due to rip roaring laughter especially in the treasure hunt scene where he very diligently translates every move of his chief even while he is hanging from a cliff and later when they are tied down by Nasser’s men.
The treasure hunt scene is an amalgam of Takeshi’s castle, Mackenna’s Gold and Indiana Jones Adventures and this scene could be an extreme source of merriment especially for children. The 350-feet statue in this scene is brilliant.
The long list of star cast includes Vyapuri, Mouli, V S Raghavan, Manorama, Ramesh Kanna, Ilavarasu and Delhi Ganesh who all have a small role to play in.
Simbu Devan should certainly be applauded for giving the audience an all new experience and his hard work is palpable. On the flipside, he does not engage the audience completely and loses his grip on them on and off. There are times when the film appears outright childish. The screen play meanders a while and there is a jump of genre here and there.
All in all, IKMS is a clean, adventure, comedy which would appeal to children and young minded adults.
Top 10 Songs
Hmmm, this is surprising! Just when we were banking on certain new songs to creep up the charts, some old favorites have thumbed their noses at them and have managed to comfortably retain their places. What is the secret? You can take a guess
SINGAM’S EARLY ARRIVAL
Good news for all of Suriya’s fans! The star’s Singam is due to arrive sooner than expected. While there were reports that sun Pictures would release the film in June, it has now been decided to advance the release. The reason cited is that the makers of Singam want to cash in on the summer vacation time, where family and child audiences are at their peak.
Other sources in Kollywood say that since Sun Pictures is gearing up to release its next venture soon, it wants Singam to hit the marquee well before.
Whatever the reason might be, it is the fans and movie buffs who would be the ultimate beneficiaries!

MYSSKIN HAPPY THAT KAMAL’S PROJECT WAS DROPPED
What happened to much-hyped Mysskin’s project with Kamal Haasan? The answer to this question emerged in a popular magazine recently. And it was Myskkin who gave the clarification.
The director, when questioned about the Kamal project, merely replied that he is happy that it has been dropped. Mysskin added that it is peaceful to work in small films rather than concentrating on big budget movies with top heroes. He, however, failed to elaborate on what transpired between the two and why the project was called off.
Yutham Sei is the name of the film that the director is currently working on.
VIKRAM – THE TALK OF THE TOWN
Vikram's diametrically opposite roles in the Tamil and Hindi versions of the Mani Ratnam directed Ravanan is the talk of the town. This movie is due to be released soon and the actor is already concentrating on his next project with director Bhoopathy Pandian.
Having donned a series serious role, the transition to do a comedy role may not be easy for all actors. But with Vikram being a seasoned actor, it should be a smooth transition. With Bhoopathy Pandian’s forte being comedy and Vikram donning the intelligence police officer role, this film has generated enough expectations already. And finally for those keen on knowing the title of this movie – it is Vedi.

Another director in 'Yudham Sei'
Mysskin is very innovative in all things he does for his films. For 'Yudham Sei' he changed the look and guise of usual Cheran to that of a CBI officer. Then he roped in the popular TV host Rose to do an important role. Now he has made another director an actor in ‘Yudham Sei’.
Director Marimuthu burst on the scene with the film 'Kannum Kannum' which told the story of a lover who turns brother to his love due to circumstances. Marimuthu plays the second officer to Cheran in ‘Yudham Sei’. But the unit is keeping the colour of his character under wraps for their own good reasons.
Srikanth to release ‘Patta Patti 50-50’ songs
Cricket veteran Srikanth is coming to the help of Sadagopan Ramesh, who is making his onscreen debut as a hero in a film titled ‘Patta Patti 50-50’. For the yesteryear sportsman will attend the audio launch function of the movie in Chennai.
The producers Sanraa Media and Flickr Studios have planned to release the film's music on May 10 (Monday) at a popular multiplex in Chennai. At the function, Srikanth will share the dais with many big guns of Tamil cinema.
A cricket based drama, 'Patta Patti 50-50' is directed by Yuvaraj, a one-time associate of Chimbudevan and ‘Jayam’ Raja. The film has newcomer Harini opposite Ramesh, who is playing a village based cricketer.
This is not the first time for Sadagopan Ramesh to don the greasepaint. He was there in Jeyam Ravi's 'Santhosh Subramaniam'. Interestingly, it was on the sets of ‘Santhosh Subramaniam’ Ramesh met Yuvaraj who convinced him to play the lead role in ‘Patta Patti 50-50’.
