IndiaGlitz, [Monday, March 15, 2010]

Nadhiya’s re-entry in Tamil had been as successful as her entry as a fresher 25 years ago. The new ‘Kollywood Beautiful Mom’ is a much in demand to play matured powerful roles. After the grand success of M. Kumaran S/O Mahalakshmi in 2004, Nadhiys was flooded with offers. But she preferred family more and did not accept any. Later Nadhiya was seen in Thamirabarani with Vishal and Sanda with Sunder. C. Nadhiys’s last film in Tamil was the critically acclaimed Pattalam.

Now Nadhiya has accepted an offer from Myskin to play an important character in his forth coming film with Cheran. Cheran plays a CBI officer and Nasser will pair with Nadhiya. A young pair is also finalized but will only be revealed at the time of going to shoot.

acqueline on commercial radar
IndiaGlitz [Monday, March 15, 2010]

Although her debut film ‘Aladin’ had failed to impress audience, Sri Lankan beauty Jacqueline Fernandez created waves in the industry with her lively spirit.

The pretty lass will be next seen in ‘Jaane Kahan Se Aayi Hai’, again with Ritesh Deshmukh. The actress plays an alien from Venus who comes to Earth in search for true love.

But equally interesting besides this is that Jacqueline will be part of the Youngistan! Well, the beauty will soon feature in Pepsi commercial. Not only Ranbir Kapoor, Jacqueline will share the commercial with Sanjay Dutt, who will be in the ad as well!

‘Jaane Kahan Se Aayi Hai’ is directed by Milap Zaveri and produced by Nikhil Advani. So impressed was Advani with Jacqueline, sources say, that he had suggested her name for this popular soft drink brand.

N-number of success stories, awards still on count. Amitabh Bachchan, a synonym with fame, is making his niche more strong with honours and recognitions, every passing moment…

According to reports, the legendary icon will be next honoured on March 22, with the Life Time Achievement Award at the Hong Kong's Asian Film Festival. Besides this, the actor is said to receive a similar honour at the sixth edition of Muscat International Film Festival.

Wrote the 67-yr-old humble star in his blog: “The Hong Kong’s Asian Film Festival now wishes to honour me before the end of the month. And so soon after I leave the picturesque shores of Oman, I should be heading further east to receive what I believe, not so much a personal recognition, but one that comes to me as a member of the film industry of India and indeed India itself.”

It was recently that Amitabh Bachchan had accepted to become the face of Kerala tourism. And with these, the veteran actor has added few more colours to his already laden and striking career graph.

The Second Annual Golden Kela Awards (Don't pretend you haven't heard of it!) is over! And what a 'kela-tastic' bash it was. The Indian Razzies just wrapped up their second annual ceremony, pointing out and poking fun at the worst films of 2009. Among the top winners were (expectedly) ‘Chandni Chowk to China’, ‘What's Your Rashee?’ and of course ‘Kambakkht Ishq’.

The top honours for 'Worst Actor' and 'Worst Actress' went to Harman Baweja and Kareena Kapoor, and Worst Film to ‘Kambakkht Ishq’, though one of the biggest awards of the evening (the 'Bas Kijiye Bahut Ho Gaya Award'!) was awarded to Madhur Bhandarkar, for his entire career, asking him to stop making films, because 'Bahut Ho Gaya, Bas Kijiye'! In a great crossover moment, Hollywood legends Sylvester Stallone and Denise Richards won the prestigious Baawra Ho Gaya Hai Ke (Have you gone Nuts) Award.

This elicited a response from John Wilson, Founder / Head RAZZberry of the Razzies, the awards for the worst of Hollywood - "If our having given Sylvester Stallone 30 nominations and 10 statuettes in the course of our history, and also having awarded Denise Richards a Worst Supporting Actress dis-honor for THE WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH played a part in the two of them sneaking off to India to continue their bad film-making careers, please accept our most sincere apologies. Our intentions were for Stallone and Richards to be punished - not Indian movie-goers!"

But the main attraction of the evening was Chief Guest Cyrus Broacha, who was awarded the Cyrus Broacha Memorial Award (!), on which he had this to say, “It's great, I’m thrilled ...I hope to win this award every year.”

With about 3,00,000 people voting online for their 'favorites' this year, the Kelas have reached a new level of popularity. Jatin Varma, Organizer and Mai-baap of the Golden Kelas, had this to say “More and more people are joining our ranks every year to get back at Bollywood. This year, three lakh people voted. Next year we hope to touch the 3 billion mark set by 3 Idiots.”

The crowd was in splits throughout the event and for many this was their second Kela ceremony, and as many claimed, it won't be their last.

Here we have the remaining list of the winners. And we are sure you would be quite amused to go through it:

Worst Supporting Actor Male - Ranvir Shorey (Chandni Chowk to China)

Worst Supporting Actor Female - Deepika Padukone (Meow Meow; Chandni Chowk to China)

Worst Director - Ashutosh Gowariker (What's Your Rashee)

Worst Newcomer Male - Jackie Bhagnani (Kal Kissne Dekha)

Worst Newcomer Female - Shruti Hasan (Luck)

Nithyanada And Ranjitha Oil Message News

March 10th Wednesday

Amazing News

CHENNAI/BANGALORE: A salacious tape containing alleged sexual acts of godman Nithyananda Paramahamsa, telecast by a Tamil TV channel repeatedly since Tuesday night, triggered violence across Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, with disciples in his ashrams located in the two states being roughed up and his property damaged by the irate public.

The tape, aired by the channel, shows a man, similar in appearance to the young long-haired godman, in a few minutes of sexual romp allegedly with a Tamil actor. The incident also evoked a sharp response from Tamil Nadu CM M Karunanidhi. When asked in Tiruchi about the alleged sexual excesses by the godmen, the CM said a meeting of a high-level committee comprising members of the state-run Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowment department and other top officials would be convened to discuss and decide on the course of action the government planned to take to curb the trend.

Nithyananda made a vain bid late in the evening to restrain the media from airing the tape, but a city civil court did not grant any stay, as sought by the godman, but merely ordered notices to some news organisations. In his petition, he claimed that the video footage was a fake and morphed one. He blamed an inmate of his ashram, Premananda alias Lenin Karuppan, for the morphing of his face with the idea of defaming him. The petition has been posted to March 8 for further hearing. The godman said he had 45 lakh devotees in 17 countries and was involved in social work and education besides spiritual activities.

In Chennai, a group of advocates lodged a complaint against the godman at the police commissionerate, seeking criminal action against him. Alleging that he had amassed wealth worth several crores of rupees, they demanded that the government confiscate his properties and freeze his accounts. In Coimbatore, the godman's posters were ripped off the street walls and staff in a yoga centre run by his devotees fled fearing an attack.

Reacting to the defamatory video, a statement from the Nithyananda Dhyanapeetam at Bidadi in Karnataka said: ‘‘A mix of conspiracy, graphics and rumour are at play in these recent events that have unfolded. We are working on a legal course of action and will come up with updates in due course.''

An uneasy calm prevailed around the 14-acre ashram at Dasanakoppalu, near Bidadi, in the suburbs of Bangalore. Police cordoned off the ashram premises to prevent the public from creating trouble.

Nithyananda Sex Scandal gets Murkier...

Mar 5,Chennai (DHNS): The sex scandal allegedly involving Swami Nithyananda and a Tamil film star Ranjitha got even murkier on Thursday with a web of fresh charges and sinister scenarios popping up, even as the self-styled godman is believed to be “somewhere in the Kumbhamela festival”, either in Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh or in Puri in Orissa.

Nearly two days after a Tamil TV channel beamed amorous pictures of the sexual intimacies that landed both the protagonists in a soup, the ‘Nithyananda Dhyanapeetam’, the worldwide institution for meditation and harmony the Godman founded, broke its silence this evening as his lawyer claimed that the pictures were not that of Nithyananda.

Hours after having moved a civil suit here, the spiritual Guru’s lawyer, M Sreedhar told a press conference amid near chaos in the hall, the whole episode was part of a “much larger conspiracy” to malign both Nithyananda and his institution by projecting his “morphed” images with an actress.

Joined by Sri Atma Prabhananda, a close aide of the Swamiji and an ‘Ashram’ spokesman, the duo claimed that even before this “so-called expose” by the TV channel, CDs’ with ‘morphed images’ of the ‘Guru’ had been e-mailed to him several times. “Swami Nithyananda has done nothing wrong and he will come and clear the air,” the spokesman added.

Disciple blamed

For them, the needle of suspicion points to one Premananda alias Lenin Karupannan, hailing from Salem in Tamil Nadu and who is said to have initially joined the Godman as a driver and later became a close disciple.

In fact, the civil suit filed on Nithyananda’s behalf, seeking to restrain the TV channel and some related Tamil publications from publishing or broadcasting anything against the Swamji, termed the tapes defamatory. It blamed Karupannan for all the “false propaganda and defamatory statements” against the Swamiji. Lenin Karupannan is now at large, and legal circles here suspect that he was the conduit for the tell-tale DVDs’ reaching the ‘Sun TV Network’ and the Tamil magazine ‘Nakkeeran’.

Even the onus of proof that the two persons shown in the CD making love were that of Swami Nithyananda and Ranjitha “lies with the television channel,” said Sreedhar and refused to take further questions as the case is due for hearing on March 8. He also alleged that the channel was already prejudiced against the Swamji, as he had earlier declined to write his popular spiritual column for ‘Kungumam’, a Tamil weekly from ‘Sun TV’ stable.

Actress Ranjitha was even “threatened” to make a complaint against the Swamiji, which she refused, alleged the lawyer. This explains why her face on the sleaze tapes were shown only in the second day broadcasts, he felt. Asked whether Ranjitha sought to help the TV channel initially, he said, “I can’t say anything now.”

Besides this internal rift in the Ashram, which legal circles feel could partly stem from the envy that the Swamiji unwittingly triggered as more foreign devotees sent donations in US dollars, another theory doing the rounds is that the sordid episode could be part of bigger game-plan by the ‘land mafia’. The Swamiji had been setting up meditation and yoga centres in several places that involved land deals by his devotees.

Ranjitha, admired in film circles here as a “very talented, beautiful and committed artiste”, left Chennai five days ago. “Memsaab is not here and you cannot meet anybody,” was the stern response of two Nepali-speaking Gurkhas guarding the complex that houses her flat in the city’s posh T Nagar area, when DH Correspondent reached there today.

Sources familiar with the Tamil film industry here say that Ranjitha, whose marriage with an army officer had strained, has probably gone back to meet her husband stationed in North India. “Sometimes, her parents come and stay with her; otherwise nobody else comes here,” the sources added.

As repeat telecasts of the Nithyananda tapes had caused ‘revulsion’ among the general public, Chief Minister M Karunanidhi today warned sections of the media not to go overboard with such explicit materials and photographs. At the same time the Government will be no spectator to such sordid goings-on in such ‘Ashrams’ claiming to propagate spirituality, he added.

Whereabouts of ‘guru’ not known: Acharya

Bangalore : Home Minister V S Acharya on Thursday said the State police was in touch with their Tamil Nadu counterpart regarding the Nityananda sex scandal and would take “strict action” against the self-styled swami if need be.

“We have not been able to ascertain the whereabouts of Nityananda. We are coordinating with the Tamil Nadu police”, Acharya informed the Legislative Assembly after Leader of the Opposition Siddaramaiah raised the matter on the floor of the House on Thursday.

To a demand by some opposition legislators that government confiscate the Nityananda ashram premises in Bidadi, Acharya said. “How can we confiscate when it is the government land? We will seek more information on the land records from Ramanagara Deputy Commissioner and also the authorities in Tamil Nadu and take action”, he said.

On a complaint that deer and tiger skin was being used as mattresses in the ashram, the police and forest department officials had searched the premises on Thursday but nothing was found. However, the police recovered 26 kg of sandalwood pieces. Sometime back the ashram authorities had registered a police complaint that a sandalwood tree in the ashram premises had been stolen.

Acharya said the government had deployed a platoon of Karnataka State Reserve Police (KSRP) near Nityananda’s ashram in Bidadi soon after a private channel aired the video clips showing him in compromising position on Tuesday night.

However, a huge mob managed to break the police barrier and indulged in smashing windowpanes, he said. Some of those who indulged in violence have been arrested, he said.

The reason behind the fire in five “huts” inside the ashram has not been ascertained, he said.

In the Council, Law Minister Suresh Kumar said that an enquiry would be conducted into the financial transactions of the ashram.
“The money belongs to people. The government will decide how to handle the assets of ashram. The government will also look into the allegations of the Godman’s sexual conduct”, he added.

In a country where swamijis are treated as walking and talking gods, instances like the Nityananda episode, will erode the faith of people in all the godmen, said leader of the Opposition Motamma .

THAINDIAN NEWS) The governments in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu are on tenterhooks after the shocking sex tape involving spiritual leader Swami Nithyananda and two women have been released. The spiritual leader who has a huge fan following not only in India but also outside the country is reportedly absconding after the exposure of his lewd acts inside his ashram. However, it seems that actress Ranjitha has also gone underground after people watching the video footage identified one of the women to be her. The Tamil actress has acted in a number of movies and TV serials. She has not made any public statement after the leakage of the news and attempts to reach her over phone and in person have proved futile.

Incidents of violence are rocking the two southern states where the spiritual leader has ashrams. According to the reports, the police in Bangalore are having a tough time in controlling the angry devotees of the absconding leader who are resorting to burning his effigies and posters randomly. A huge number of policemen have been deployed to prevent further attacks on the Bidadi ashram of Swami Nithyananda which was attacked by an enraged mob earlier. Reportedly, 100 foreigner devotees are in the ashram as of now, and the government wants to ensure their safety.

The incident has given the media enough scope to point fingers at the so called God-mans and their practices in India. However, the ashram website has posted a message saying that the video is a fake one and it has been made to malign the spiritual leader.

Medhai, a commercial entertainer whose story takes place in a city, has an abundance of comedy, romance, sentiments and all other masala elements needed for making a grand entertainer. Though from a rural backdrop, the ‘Ramarajan effect’ will be unaltered as he has a reliable partner in Vadivelu, and they both are going to rock in Medhai!

Medhai will be directed by N.T.G. Saravanan, who had worked as an assistant to director Hari. Story, screenplay and dialogues have been written by him, and he would like to emulate his teacher Hari and produce commercial hits. The film is being produced under the banner of Kalaimagal Koodam.

After Agni Natchathiram, the Prabhu-Karthik duo will come on screen after a long time. Meanwhile, Karthik has reportedly appreciated Arun Vijay for maturing as a good actor with the right scripts.

Maanja Velu is also an action movie. 'Maanja' is the mixture of glass powder and other ingredients coated on the string of a kite. It is used to cut the strings of rival kites, but if handled wrongly, it can cut you. This forms the basic plot. Ganja Karuppu, Santhanam and others form the supporting cast. Mani Sharma has scored the music for Maanja Velu, which is expected to release soon.

Ajith-Gautham's next titled Kaaval?

Now we all know that Thala Ajith's 50th film will be directed by the stylish film-maker Gautham Menon. The film produced by Dhayanidhi Alagiri is believed to be a police story. Ajith has played a cop in Anjaneya, but the film was not too successful, so we hope it’s time Ajith tastes success in a thrilling cop story.

Meanwhile, director Gautham Menon has clearly denied that the film is titled Thuppariyum Anand. In an interview, he stated, “Yes I have written a script called Thuppariyum Anand about a detective in 1920’s Madras and given it to Kamal Haasan and Aamir Khan. I’m hoping that one of them will do the film. Once and for all I would like to say that the Ajith film is untitled and is a mass entertainer. All technicians who worked with me in VTV will be a part of this new film, while I’m on the lookout for a heroine.”

Now the latest buzz is that the ace director has suggested the title Kaaval for their upcoming venture. It is also learned that the director has applied for the title to Film Chamber and once the approval comes, it will be announced officially. There are also reports that Thala is planning to invite Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi and the state DIG for the launch function.

Samantha speaks out

Samantha, a commerce graduate from a Telugu-Malayalee family, is making her screen debut with Naga Chaitanya's Yemaya Chesave (Telugu version of Gautham Menon's Tamil film Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa starring Simbu and Trisha).

When asked about the language barrier, the pretty lass in an interview to a leading English daily said, “We speak Tamil and English at home, so Telugu is alien to me. I had great difficulty in mugging up the dialogues, but now, I can speak a few words.”

About her upcoming Tamil venture Baana Kaathadi opposite Atharva, son of actor Murali, the excited actress says, “It’s a lovely role. I had signed this film first, but my Telugu film became my launchpad. For me, language doesn’t matter; I’m interested in meaty roles.”

When asked about the comparison with her Tamil counterpart Trisha, she chirps, “I think Trisha is extremely talented and experienced. And she’s also one of my favourite actresses. I simply followed director Gautham Menon's instructions when I did the film. I wasn’t even trying to outdo a senior like Trisha.”
